I’m still working my way through all the information on formatting a manuscript for e-publication. There’s a lot of it.
However, I am also seriously considering entering this contest and having e-published a novel would potentially be a disqualification. There’s no doubt it would be a challenge to organize things–Mom’s care first of all–in the unlikely event that I won, but I think I’d find a way.
Meanwhile, I’ve been playing around with another cover art idea. This is obviously barely started. The dimensions aren’t even right, yet. I think it could be interesting, though.
Also in the mean time, I’m thinking of starting off with something smaller. A novelette titled “Heart of Oak”. That might be a more manageable place to start, anyway. And then I could give the novelette away for free when I eventually e-pub BLOOD WILL TELL. Guess I may have to start on cover art for that, too.
Interesting contest with a very nice prize, even though I would need a whole lot more than $300s for traveling.
As to the new cover. Not bad at all, nice and clear, pro looking, nice colors that would attract people. But, I’m sorry to say this, personally I think that outer circle looks like a hairy bicycle tire.
And have you mentioned” Heart Of Oak” before? Interesting title but I know I have seen it some place.

Yes, the financial part would be a challenge, too. But to get to that conference, I think I would find a way.
That cover is barely started. I haven’t touched the outer rings, yet, really. There are two options. I think it’s meant to look like flames. The other option, of course, is to just delete them. For me, it evokes the infinity symbol and also a cloak pin that plays a small role in the story. Plus, of course, the gold dragon. We’ll see how it turns out.
“Heart of Oak” has been critted on Hatrack, but it was a while ago. There aren’t a lot of markets for novelettes of approximately 9500 words.

That is probably where I saw it even though I didn’t crit it. I may buy it though, sounds intriguing, I need to buy a few more stories-novels anyway.

Oops, thought of something too late.
If I do buy it though, that means I will have to review it on my blog(Sigh).
Just kidding about the sigh part, it won’t be hard. 🙂

Not sure if you would want to do this or if you can with e-publishing-if you go that route- maybe POD could do it.
Anyway, C. E. Murphy’s latest book had a symbol embossed on the cover. I think that’s the word for what they did. There’s a regular pic but as I said this symbol on it. You can make it easily enough especially if you tilt the book slightly. It’s huge, takes up over half the page.

Yeah, I’ve seen a number of professionally published books like that. It really isn’t applicable to e-publishing. And I don’t have any immediate plans for pod. Certainly not for “Heart of Oak”.
